How to Format your microSD Card

If you are running into an issue with your microSD card, reformatting the card can help. It can erase the corrupted data that is preventing proper use of the card and reset it.

This will erase all of the existing contents of the microSD card. Back up any files you want to save.

Format in the Wyze app (Recommended):

  1. Tap Home, then tap on the Wyze Cam that has your microSD card in it.
  2. Tap the Settings SettingsGear.png icon, then Advanced Settings.
  3. Tap SD Card Storage/MicroSD Card Storage for the Wyze Cam Outdoor, then Format.

Format on a Windows computer:

  1. Remove the microSD card from the Wyze Cam.
  2. Insert the card into your computer.
    • If you don't have a port, you may need an adapter.  
  3. Open your computer's file browser. 
  4. Right-click on the microSD card in the navigation panel.
    • It should appear near your computer's primary drive. For Windows, this is likely your C:/ drive.
  5. Select "Format..." from the right-click menu.
  6. Ensure that the Format Type is set to FAT32.
  7. Click Start.

Format on a Mac:

  1. Remove the microSD card from the Wyze Cam.
  2. Insert the card into your computer.
    • If you don't have a port, you may need an adapter.  
  3. Open Finder. On the Finder bar, click Go > Utilities.
  4. In Utilities, click Disk Utility.
  5. In Disk Utility, select the microSD card from the left-hand menu.
  6. Navigate to the Erase tab in the main panel (the right-hand fields).
  7. From the Format dropdown menu, click MS-DOS FAT
    • Either leave the Title field blank or rename it.
  8. Click Erase, then select Erase again to confirm.
Note: Make sure that, no matter which instructions you follow, that the format is complete before removing the microSD card. This will prevent the card from getting corrupted.
