What is "Friendly Faces"?
"Friendly Faces" is the Wyze version of facial recognition. Using vision AI, your camera is able to capture, tag, and store human faces. If a face is recognized, then you'll receive a notification that mentions them by name "Mylinh was detected...". Even more handy, you'll be able to view previous events and filter for specific people. 👋
How do I set up Friendly Faces?
Start by signing up for a Cam Protect or Cam Unlimited* subscription, and make sure the license is attached to your Wyze Cam in the Wyze app.
Then, in your camera's settings:
- Tap Event Recording, then tap the toggle next to Record Motion Events.
- Tap the option next to Smart Detection Events.
- Tap Smart Detections, then tap the toggle next to Friendly Faces.
- Check the box after you've read the notice*, then tap Agree and continue to proceed.
After this is enabled and a Person (and their face) is detected, the Event video will also show Someone as being detected.
When someone is detected:
- Tap on the Event video that has Someone listed.
- Tap picture with Someone under it.
- If you new who this person is, tap Edit to name the Friendly Face.
- Tap Save.
The more you name those Someones, the better you train the camera to recognize and remember their faces the next time they're detected. Huzzah!
I have a ton of Person detection Event videos and just enabled Friendly Faces. Now what?
For new Events with a person detected, they'll list Someone attached to the event. Use the steps above to name the faces your camera detects so it can learn who they are.
"No unknown people detected in the past 14 days."
You just got Friendly Faces and enabled it on your camera, so why might you see this error? As you just enabled the feature and agreed to the terms, it is only now ready to start detecting people and learning their faces. The next time someone is detected, follow the steps above to name them and train your camera!
Note: 📸 Friendly Faces does not work retroactively on previously recorded events.
Is Friendly Faces the same as the Person detection we get with Cam Plus?
No, Friendly Faces is different than our Person Detection feature. Tagging those videos uses a generic machine-learning model, while this model actively trains the camera to recognize not just Persons but Faces.
Why isn't Friendly Faces available on my camera?
This feature is available on virtually all Wyze cameras! If yours is greyed out, it's because your camera isn't compatible with your subscription* (Cam Protect), or is a Wyze Cam v1. Get Cam Plus Unlimited to get Friendly Faces on nearly all your Wyze cams.
Why isn't Friendly Faces available in my area?

Additional Notes*
- * Individual Cam Plus plans do not qualify for Friendly Faces, only Cam Unlimited or Cam Protect.
- * Wyze cannot provide Face Recognition services in some areas, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, New York City, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington State, and the Canadian Provinces of Ontario and Quebec. By tapping "Agree and continue" in the app, you state and agree that you will not use this feature in those jurisdictions.
- * Outdoor cameras are not compatible with Cam Protect and won't have the Friendly Faces option.
- Friendly Faces can only send Push Notifications. it will not trigger Emergency Services.
- Friendly Faces is available for both monthly and annual Cam Protect subscriptions.
- Friendly Faces is not available on Wyze Cam v1.
