Using your Wyze Cam v3

With the Wyze app, accessing and viewing your Wyze Cam v3 takes only a few taps. This article shares the basics on how to use your Wyze Cam v3.

Viewing the Live Stream

As long as you're connected to Wi-Fi, you can view the Live stream of your Wyze Cam from anywhere, via the Wyze app. 

To view the Live stream:

  1. In the Wyze app, go to the Home tab.
  2. Tap your Wyze Cam on the Favorites or Devices tab. 
  3. The Live stream will load automatically.
    • On battery-powered Wyze Cams, you may have to tap a play button to start the Live stream.

Live Stream Icons:

Tap on the Live stream to display the icons.

  • Streaming Quality: Change the streaming quality of your Live stream with just a tap. 
    • Depending on your Wyze Cam, you may any of these settings: 4K, 2.5K, 2K, HD, SD, or 360p.
    • Having connection issues? Set your quality to SD or 360p to use less bandwidth.
  • Battery Percentage: Displays on the Live stream for all battery-powered Wyze Cams.
  • Picture-in-Picture (PIP): Opens a moveable pop-out window of the Live stream so you can navigate away from the Wyze app, while keeping the Live stream open.
  • Rotate/Fullscreen: Rotates the Live stream to a fullscreen landscape view.
  • Spotlight: Displays the status of the built-in spotlight, or turns it on/off.
    • Available on select Wyze Cams.
  • Speak: Tap to send your voice through the camera's speaker.  When finished speaking, tap the microphone icon again.
  • Sound: Listen to audio the camera’s microphone.

Swipe left on the Menu bar to view all icons.

  • SD Card: With a microSD card installed, view playback and filter local recordings.
  • Take Photo: Take a picture of the stream from the Live Stream screen.
  • Record: Record a video of the stream directly from the Live stream screen.
  • Smart Focus: An auto-zoomed view to focus on what matters, with an overlay of the full view.
  • Siren: Careful! A loud alarm will sound when tapped. Tap again to turn off the siren.
  • Album: All videos and photos saved to the device from this camera will display here.
  • Timelapse: Set a timelapse recording on your camera. 
    • Available on select Wyze Cams.
  • Turn Off: Turns off your Wyze Cam. The camera still has power, but the Live stream is off, the camera will not record events, and all other functions are disabled.
    • Tap Turn On to turn your Wyze Cam on.
  • Reorder: Customize the order of the Menu bar options.

Additional Notes:

  • Digital Zoom: Use the two-finger pinch motion to digital zoom on your Live stream.
  • Security: All Live streams are encrypted via AES 128-bit encryption, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, and consistent hashing to ensure your Live stream security.

Turning your Wyze Cam On/Off

Turn your camera on or off using the Wyze app, even with your camera plugged in. You can do this several ways: 

From the Home tab:

  1. In the Wyze app, go to the Home tab.
  2. Find your Wyze Cam on the Favorites or Devices tab. 
    1. Favorites: Tap the On/Off icon on the Live stream.
    2. Devices: Tap your Wyze Cam, swipe left on the menu bar, then tap Turn Off.
      • Tap Turn On to turn your Wyze Cam on.

Additional Notes:

  • The On/Off button reflects the current state of the camera.
  • The On/Off button will only be available when the camera has a stable IoT connection to our servers. Otherwise, the camera will be listed as "Offline" with a crossed-out cloud symbol.
  • If the camera is in a group, tapping On or Off from the Home tab will affect all cameras in that group.

From the Live stream:

  1. In the Wyze app, go to the Home tab.
  2. Tap your Wyze Cam on the Favorites or Devices tab. 
  3. Swipe left on the Menu bar, then tap Turn Off.
    • Tap Turn On to turn your Wyze Cam on.

Additional Notes:

  • Turning the camera off from the Wyze app does not make it offline. It will maintain an IoT-level connection with our servers even when "Off" so that it can receive the "On" command.
  • The Live stream and Event recording features will be disabled completely while the camera is turned off.
  • If your Wyze Cam loses its network connection or power while turned off, it will reconnect in the "On" state when the network/power is restored.
  • The only way to completely turn off your camera is by unplugging it from power.

Viewing Event Videos

Depending on your Event recording settings, you may have a lot of videos sent your way. There are a few ways to watch and sort them all.

From a Push Notification:

  1. From your mobile device, tap on the push notification that you received.
    • You'll only receive a notification if you have push notifications enabled for Event videos.
  2. This will open the Wyze app and take you directly to the Event video.

From the Events tab:

  1. In the Wyze app, go to the Events tab.
  2. Scroll through the Event videos, and tap on the specific video you want to view.
  3. At the top of the screen, you can filter event videos by day, type of detection, camera, and more. 

Have a lot of Event videos to scroll through? A subscription to Cam Plus gives you even more options to filter your recordings, and also record only what matters.

To filter your Events by Device, Type, and Trigger:

On the Events tab, tap the funnel on the top right to Filter by Motion, Sound, Camera Groups, and Cameras.

Sort by Motion:

  1. Check the box next to Motion.
  2. Tap Show Results.

Sort by Camera Groups:

  1. Check the box next to the specific camera group you want to view Events from.
  2. Tap Show Results.

Sort by Camera(s):

  1. Check the box next to the specific camera(s) you want to view Events from.
  2. Tap Show Results.

Sort by Premium filters (only available to Cam Plus, Cam Unlimited, and Cam Unlimited Pro subscribers):

  1. Check the box next to the specific type of detection(s) in your Events.
    • Cam Plus: You can filter by Person, Package, Vehicle, Pet and specific Sound detections.
    • Cam Unlimited and Pro: You can use all Cam Plus filters, and also by Faces.
  2. Tap Show Results.

Additional Note:

A different type of Event video is an Automation. If you create an automation to "Upload a short video to the cloud" at a specific time from a specific camera, an Automation Event video will be created. However, Automation videos cannot be filtered.

Sharing and Saving Event Videos

Event videos don't have to stay in the cloud! You can save and share individual videos with a few taps.

To save an Event video:

  1. In the Wyze app, go to the Events tab.
  2. Tap on the video you want to save. 
  3. Tap on the video to display the side menu, then tap More
  4. Tap Download to save the Event to you device.

To share an Event video:

  1. In the Wyze app, go to the Events tab.
  2. Tap on the video you want to save. 
  3. Tap on the video to display the side menu, then tap More
  4. Tap the Share share icon to bring up the Share menu.

Updating your Wyze Cam firmware:

It is important to keep your camera’s firmware up to date, which gets you the latest features and keeps your device secure and working properly.

To update your Wyze Cam firmware:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap on your Wyze Cam, then the Settings gear.
  2. Tap Device Info > Firmware Version
    • Don't have the option to update? Then your firmware is already up to date!

Another way to update: Go to the Account tab > Firmware Update. Here you can check the firmware version on all of your devices, and update them individually or all at once.
