Using your Wyze Cam v3

With the Wyze app, accessing and viewing your Wyze Cam v3 takes only a few taps. This article shares the basics on how to use your Wyze Cam v3.

Viewing the Live Stream

As long as you're connected to Wi-Fi, you can view the Live stream of your Wyze Cam v3 from anywhere. 

To view the Live stream:

Tap on the camera you want to view. Once the page loads, you're viewing the Live stream.

Live Stream Features:

  • Streaming Quality: View your Live Stream in HD, SD, or 360p quality with just a tap. 
    • Having connection issues? Set your quality to SD or 360p to use less bandwidth.
  • Night Vision: Wyze Cam v3 has excellent low-light vision on its own, but it also has an infrared light filter and infrared LED lights for viewing the live stream at night.
  • Sound: Listen to the camera’s microphone by tapping Sound on the Live stream screen. 
  • Record: Record a video of the stream directly from the Live stream screen. Tap Record to start recording and Stop to finish recording. 
    • Recorded videos are saved to your device’s photo gallery and can be viewed, sent, or shared from there or through the Album in the Wyze app.
  • Speak: Talk to your pets or communicate with someone with the Speak feature. Tap Speak to send your voice through the camera's speaker. When finished speaking, tap Speak again. Turning on Speak will also turn on Sound so you can hear whoever you're speaking to.
  • Take Photo: Take a picture of the stream from the Live Stream screen. Tap Take Photo to take a picture. Photos are saved to the Album in the Wyze app.
    • Photos are saved to your device’s photo gallery and can be viewed, sent, or shared from there or through the Album in the Wyze app.
  • More Menu: Access more functions by tapping More. You'll be able to toggle Motion Tagging, access the photo Album, record a Time Lapse video, turn on/off the Siren, or turn on/off the camera.

Additional Features:

  • 8x Digital Zoom: Use the two-finger pinch motion for up to 8x digital zoom of your Live stream.
  • Security: All Live streams are encrypted via AES 128-bit encryption, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, and consistent hashing to ensure your Live stream security.

Turning your Wyze Cam v3 On/Off

Turn your camera on or off using the Wyze app, even with your camera plugged in. You can do this several ways: 

From the Home tab:

In the Wyze app, tap the On or Off button to the right of the camera. 

  • The On/Off button reflects the current state of the camera.
  • The On/Off button will only be available when the camera has a stable IoT connection to our servers. Otherwise, the camera will be listed as "Offline" with a crossed-out cloud symbol.
  • If the camera is in a group, tapping On or Off from the Home tab will affect all cameras in that group.

From the Live stream:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap on the camera from the Home tab.
  2. Tap the More icon (the three dots) .
  3. Tap Turn On or Turn Off.

Additional Notes:

  • Turning the camera off from the Wyze app does not take it entirely offline. It will maintain an IoT-level connection with our servers even when "Off: so that it can receive the "On" command.
  • The Live stream and Event recording features will be disabled completely while the camera is turned off.
  • If you Wyze Cam loses its network connection or power while turned off, it will reconnect in the "On" state when the network/power is restored.
  • The only way to completely turn off your camera is by unplugging it from power.

Viewing Event Videos

Depending on your Event recording settings, you may have a lot of videos sent your way. There are a few ways to watch and sort them all.

From a Push Notification:

  1. From your mobile device, tap on the push notification that you received.
    • You'll only receive a notification if you have push notifications enabled for Event videos.
  2. This will open the Wyze app and take you directly to the Event video.

From the Events tab:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap Events
  2. Scroll through the Event videos, and tap on the specific video you want to view.

Have a lot of Event videos to scroll through? You'll have to filter out the extras. 

To filter your Events by Device, Type, and Trigger:

On the Events tab, tap the funnel on the top right to Filter by Person, Motion, and Camera.

Sort by Camera(s):

  1. Check the box next to the specific camera(s) you want to view Events from.
  2. Tap Show Results.

Sort by Cam Plus filters (only available to Cam Plus subscribers)

  1. Check the box next to the specific type of detection(s) in your Events.
    • You can filter to view only Person, Package, and Pet detection.
  2. Tap Show Results.

Sort by Triggers:

  1. Check the box next to the specific trigger that caused the Event video.
    • Motion: Video was created when movement was detected.
    • Sound: Video was created when sound was detected.
  2. Tap Show Results.

Additional Note:

A different type of Event video is an Automation. If you create an automation to "Upload a short video to the cloud" at a specific time from a specific camera, an Automation Event video will be created. However, Automation videos cannot be filtered.

Sharing and Saving Event Videos

Record something funny? Event videos don't have to stay in the cloud! You can save and share individual videos with a few taps.

To save an Event video:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap Events.
  2. Tap on the Event you want to save. 
  3. Tap the Download download icon to save the Event to you system gallery.

To share an Event video:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap Events.
  2. Tap on the Event you want to share. 
  3. Tap the Share share icon to bring up the Share menu.

Updating your Wyze Cam v3 firmware:

It is important to keep your camera’s firmware up to date, which gets you the latest features and keeps your device secure and working properly.

To update your Wyze Cam v3 firmware:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap on your Wyze Cam v3, then the Settings gear.
  2. Tap Device Info > Firmware Version
    • Don't have the option to update? Then your firmware is already up to date!

Another way to update, go to Account > Firmware Update. Here you will be able to check if you have the newest version on all of your device on one screen. You also have the option to Upgrade All at the same time.
