My Wyze Cam OG spotlight does not turn on automatically.

Problem

Your Wyze Cam OG's spotlight doesn't turn on automatically, or as expected.

Troubleshooting

  1. Confirm your Wyze app is up to date.
    1. In your Wyze app, go to the Account tab > tap About.
    2. Your current app version will be listed beneath the Wyze logo.
    3. Compare your app version to the latest app version listed here on our Release Notes & Firmware page.
  2. Check that your Wyze Cam OG’s firmware is up to date.
    1. You can check this by going to the Account tab > Firmware Update.

    2. If there is an update available for the camera, please move forward with updating it.

  3. Make sure the camera is in a dark enough area for the spotlight to turn on.
    • Note: Dark by human eyes may not be considered dark for the camera.
  4. Toggle the spotlight on/off.
    • In the camera’s Live stream, tap the spotlight icon.
  5. In the Wyze app, toggle the spotlight on/off.
    1. This can be found in the camera’s settings > Spotlight Settings > Spotlight Control.
    2. This setting will automatically turn on the spotlight when the camera detects motion in very low light.
  6. Ensure the camera is set to record correctly.
    1. Navigate to the camera’s settings > Event Recording.
    2. Enable Motion then select All Events.
    3. Tap Customize Detections.
    4. Next to Other Motion, ensure that the boxes are checked for both the Tag and Notify columns.
    5. Attempt to trigger the camera by creating movement in front of the device.
    6. Note: For Wyze Service users, once recordings for Other Motion are being generated, you can select the desired AI recordings by checking the other options in the Tag and Notify columns.
  7. Power cycle the camera by unplugging it from its power source for 5 seconds and then plugging it back in.
  8. Verify that there are no Automations set up that would interfere with the spotlight.
    1. Navigate to the Home tab of the Wyze app, tap Automations.

    2. Note: We recommend deleting any Automations and then adding them back one by one while testing.

  9. Factory reset the camera and then set it up as new.
    1. Remove any microSD card inserted in the camera.
    2. With the camera plugged into power, rotate the lens of the camera so it is facing up and single-press SETUP for 10 seconds until the status light on the front of the camera lens turns solid red.
    3. Once the status light starts flashing red, set up the camera as new.
  10. Once the camera is set back up, re-enable Spotlight Control.
