Problem
Your Wyze Cam OG's spotlight doesn't turn on automatically, or as expected.
Troubleshooting
- Confirm your Wyze app is up to date.
- In your Wyze app, go to the Account tab > tap About.
- Your current app version will be listed beneath the Wyze logo.
- Compare your app version to the latest app version listed here on our Release Notes & Firmware page.
- Check that your Wyze Cam OG’s firmware is up to date.
-
You can check this by going to the Account tab > Firmware Update.
-
If there is an update available for the camera, please move forward with updating it.
-
- Make sure the camera is in a dark enough area for the spotlight to turn on.
- Note: Dark by human eyes may not be considered dark for the camera.
-
Toggle the spotlight on/off.
- In the camera’s Live stream, tap the spotlight icon.
-
In the Wyze app, toggle the spotlight on/off.
- This can be found in the camera’s settings > Spotlight Settings > Spotlight Control.
- This setting will automatically turn on the spotlight when the camera detects motion in very low light.
- Ensure the camera is set to record correctly.
- Navigate to the camera’s settings > Event Recording.
- Enable Motion then select All Events.
- Tap Customize Detections.
- Next to Other Motion, ensure that the boxes are checked for both the Tag and Notify columns.
- Attempt to trigger the camera by creating movement in front of the device.
- Note: For Wyze Service users, once recordings for Other Motion are being generated, you can select the desired AI recordings by checking the other options in the Tag and Notify columns.
- Power cycle the camera by unplugging it from its power source for 5 seconds and then plugging it back in.
- Verify that there are no Automations set up that would interfere with the spotlight.
-
Navigate to the Home tab of the Wyze app, tap Automations.
-
Note: We recommend deleting any Automations and then adding them back one by one while testing.
-
-
Factory reset the camera and then set it up as new.
- Remove any microSD card inserted in the camera.
- With the camera plugged into power, rotate the lens of the camera so it is facing up and single-press SETUP for 10 seconds until the status light on the front of the camera lens turns solid red.
- Once the status light starts flashing red, set up the camera as new.
- Once the camera is set back up, re-enable Spotlight Control.
