The spotlight on my Wyze Battery Cam Pro won’t turn on when motion is detected.

Problem

Wyze Battery Cam Pro's built-in spotlight does not turn on when motion is detected during sunset to sunrise.

Troubleshooting

  1. Confirm that your Wyze app is up to date.
    1. In your Wyze app, navigate to the Account tab > tap About.
    2. Your current app version will be listed beneath the Wyze logo.
    3. Compare your app version to the latest app version listed on our Release Notes & Firmware page.
    4. If you find that your Wyze app is out of date, head over to your mobile device’s app store, and update the Wyze app.
  2. If possible, check that your Wyze Battery Cam Pro’s firmware is up to date.
    1. You can check this by going to the Account tab > Firmware Update.
    2. If there is an update available for the camera, please update.
  3. Verify that Location Permissions are enabled for the Wyze app in your phone/tablet settings.
    1. Make sure that it is set to Always or While Using the App.
    2. If on iOS, make sure that Precise Location is turned on.
  4. Ensure the camera’s built-in spotlight is set to turn on from sunset to sunrise when motion is detected.
    • In the camera’s settings, tap Spotlight > toggle on Sunset to Sunrise.
  5. Toggle the spotlight on/off.
    • On the camera's Live stream, tap the spotlight icon.
  6. Ensure that the camera is set to record correctly.
    1. Navigate to the camera’s settings > Event Recording.

    2. Enable Motion then select All Events.

    3. Tap Customize Detections.

    4. Next to Other Motion, ensure that the boxes are checked for both the Tag and Notify columns.

    5. Attempt to trigger the camera by creating movement in front of the device.

    6. Note: For Wyze Services users, once recordings for Other Motion are being generated, you can select the desired AI recordings by checking the other options in the Tag and Notify columns.

  7. Verify that the motion is not happening during a cooldown period.
    • You can adjust the cooldown by going to the camera’s settings > Event Recording > Recording Cooldown.

    • Note: If you do not have an active Wyze Services subscription, your cooldown options will be limited to 1, 3, or 5 minutes.

  8. Adjust the Detection Settings.
    1. In the camera’s settings, tap Detection Settings.

    2. While testing, disable any Detection Zone that may be enabled.

    3. Increase the Detection Range by adjusting the slider bar to 30 ft.

    4. Increase the Detection Sensitivity by adjusting the slider bar to High.

  9. Check that there are no Automations set up that would interfere with the spotlight.
    1. From the Home tab of the Wyze app, tap Automations.

    2. Note: We recommend deleting any Automations and then adding them back one by one while testing.

  10. Power cycle Wyze Battery Cam Pro.
    • Remove the battery pack completely for 10 seconds, then place it back into the camera, ensuring it is seated firmly.
  11. Factory reset Wyze Battery Cam Pro.
    1. Remove any microSD card inserted into the camera.

    2. With the camera powered on, press and hold the setup button on the bottom of the camera for 10 seconds until the status light turns solid yellow.

    3. To access the setup button, you will need to open the camera's battery compartment.

    4. Once the status light starts flashing yellow and blue, set up the camera like new.

Notes:

  • Between sunset and sunrise, the spotlight will automatically turn on when motion is detected and will automatically turn off when motion is no longer detected between sunset and sunrise. This feature is only available in Wyze app 2.49 and above.

  • Recording triggers a cooldown for both the camera and the spotlight. Any motion detected during this time will not be recorded or trigger the spotlight.
