Problem
Your Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell's battery is draining more quickly than expected.
Troubleshooting
-
Confirm that your Wyze app is up to date.
- In your Wyze app, navigate to the Account tab > tap About.
- Your current app version will be listed beneath the Wyze logo.
- Compare your app version to the latest app version listed on our Release Notes & Firmware page.
- If you find that your Wyze app is out of date, head over to your mobile device’s app store, and update the Wyze app.
-
Ensure you’re using the charging cable that came with your Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell.
- If you are using the original power cable, try another power cable, if possible.
-
Verify that you’re using a 5V2A power adapter.
- If possible, try an alternate adapter.
-
Make sure the battery back is fully charged.
- If the battery pack is charging, there should be one green status light.
-
If the battery pack is fully charged, both status lights should be solid green.
- It takes 9 hours to fully charge the battery from 0%.
- If the battery pack is not charging, follow the steps in My Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell won’t charge.
-
Ensure Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell has good signal strength.
- You can check this in the Wyze app by going to the doorbell’s settings > Device Info > Signal Strength.
- If it has 2 bars or less, try moving the router and doorbell closer together.
-
Lower the resolutions of the live streams.
- 2K resolution requires more bandwidth and is more likely to cause slower connectivity or drain the battery more quickly.
-
Ensure the doorbell is set to record correctly by navigating to the doorbell’s settings > Event Recording > enable Motion.
-
For users without an active Wyze Services subscription:
- Select All Events then tap Customize Detections.
- Next to Other Motion, ensure that the boxes are checked for both the Tag and Notify columns.
-
For active Wyze Services subscribers:
- Select Smart Detection Events then tap Customize Recordings.
- Only select the specific types of AI motion that you would like to trigger the doorbell in order to eliminate unnecessary videos.
-
For users without an active Wyze Services subscription:
-
Check if there are a lot of Events triggered per day. If so, adjust the Detection Settings.
- In the doorbell’s settings, tap Detection Settings.
- Enable a Detection Zone to limit the area that will trigger the doorbell.
- Decrease the Motion Detection Sensitivity by adjusting the slider bar to Low.
-
Enable Power Saving Mode.
- In the doorbell’s settings, tap Advanced Settings > enable Power Saving Mode.
- Note: By default, Power Saving Mode is enabled to help conserve battery life. When enabled, Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell does not automatically load the live streams. Tap the Play button in the live streams to load them.
-
Adjust the local recording settings.
-
In the doorbell’s settings, tap Advanced Settings.
-
For Wyze Beta app users, go to your doorbell Settings > MicroSD Card.
-
-
Check if Record to MicroSD Card is set to Continuous.
- Note: A fully charged battery can last for up to 10 hours of continuous recording.
- Change Record to MicroSD Card from Continuous to Events Only.
-
In the doorbell’s settings, tap Advanced Settings.
-
Power cycle Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell.
- If battery-powered: Remove the battery pack completely for 10 seconds, then place it back into the doorbell, ensuring it is seated firmly.
- If hardwired: Flip the breaker that is powering the doorbell to the off position, wait 10 full seconds, then flip the breaker back to the on position.
-
Factory reset Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell.
- Remove any microSD card inserted into the doorbell.
-
Press and hold the RESET button on the back of the doorbell for 5 seconds or until the voice prompt sounds.
- To access the RESET button, you will need to use the doorbell detaching pin to remove the back plate from the doorbell.
- Once the status light is flashing red, set up the doorbell like new.
Additional Notes:
Multiple factors can impact how quickly the battery drains, including:
- Keeping the live streams open for extended periods of time.
- This also includes viewing the Events list underneath the camera’s live streams while live streams are active.
- Recording a high number of Events.
- Longer recording length.
- Shorter cooldown periods.
- Continuous local recording.
