How to flash your Wyze Cam firmware manually

Many Wyze Cam devices can be firmware flashed, which erases and replaces the firmware on the camera. This can help fix critical bugs, and force updates if necessary.

Firmware flashing is not considered a standard troubleshooting step, however. It requires additional knowledge and devices, including a microSD card, microSD card adapter, and a computer with an SD card slot.

Note: We recommend using a 32 GB microSD card in format FAT32 for firmware flashing.

Select your Wyze Cam from the list below for firmware flashing instructions:

Wyze Cam v4

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam v4:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped file is named “recovery_wcv4.bin”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by unplugging it from the wall or power adapter.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam v4, then press and hold the setup button on the camera while plugging the camera back into the wall. Be sure to keep holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds before releasing it.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will appear solid purple as both the red and blue lights will be on at the same time.
  8. Once the flash is complete, the status light will become solid blue and the camera will reboot itself.
    • If the camera was already set up on the Wyze app, it should automatically reconnect.
    • If the camera was no longer set up on the Wyze app, walk through setting it up like new.
  9. Remove the microSD card from the camera before continuing use.
  10. To continue using the microSD card, reinsert it into the computer and remove the “recovery_wcv4.bin” folder before reinserting it into the camera.
Wyze Cam v3 Pro

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam v3 Pro:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “recovery_wcv3p.bin”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by unplugging it from the wall.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam v3, then press and hold the setup button on the camera while plugging the camera back into the wall. Be sure to keep holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds before releasing it.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will appear solid purple as both the red and blue lights will be on at the same time.
  8. Once the flash is complete, the status light will become solid blue and the camera will reboot itself.
    • If the camera was already set up on the Wyze app, it should automatically reconnect.

Wyze Cam v3

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam v3:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “demo_wcv3.bin”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by unplugging it from the wall.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam v3, then press and hold the setup button on the camera while plugging the camera back into the wall. Be sure to keep holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds before releasing it.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will appear solid purple as both the red and blue lights will be on at the same time.

Wyze Cam v2

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam v2:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “demo.bin”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by unplugging it from the wall.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam v2, then press and hold the setup button on the camera while plugging the camera back into the wall. Be sure to keep holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds before releasing it.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will have both the yellow and blue lights on at the same time.
  8. Once the flash is complete, the status light will become flashing yellow and the camera will reboot itself.
    • If the camera was already set up on the Wyze app, it should automatically reconnect.
    • If the camera was no longer set up on the Wyze app, walk through setting it up like new.
  9. Remove the microSD card from the camera before continuing use.
    • If the card remains inserted, the camera will attempt to firmware flash every time it reboots.
  10. To continue using the microSD card, reinsert it into the computer and remove the “demo.bin” folder before reinserting it into the camera.
Wyze Cam v1

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam v1:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “FIRMWARE_660R_F.bin”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by unplugging it from the wall.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam v1, then press and hold the setup button on the camera while plugging the camera back into the wall. Be sure to keep holding the setup button for 12-15 seconds before releasing it.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will change during this same time.
  8. Once the flash is complete, the status light will become flashing yellow and the camera will reboot itself.
    • If the camera was already set up on the Wyze app, it should automatically reconnect.
    • If the camera was no longer set up on the Wyze app, walk through setting it up like new.
  9. Remove the microSD card from the camera before continuing use.
    • If the card remains inserted, the camera will attempt to firmware flash every time it reboots.
  10. To continue using the microSD card, reinsert it into the computer and remove the “FIRMWARE_660R_F.bin” folder before reinserting it into the camera.
Wyze Cam Pan v3

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam Pan v3:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “recovery_wyzepan3.bin”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by unplugging it from the wall.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam Pan v3, then press and hold the setup button on the camera while plugging the camera back into the wall. Be sure to keep holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds before releasing it.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will appear solid purple as both the red and blue lights will be on at the same time.
  8. Once the flash is complete, the status light will become solid blue and the camera will reboot itself.
    • If the camera was already set up on the Wyze app, it should automatically reconnect.
    • If the camera was no longer set up on the Wyze app, walk through setting it up like new.
  9. Remove the microSD card from the camera before continuing use.
    • If the card remains inserted, the camera will attempt to firmware flash every time it reboots.
  10. To continue using the microSD card, reinsert it into the computer and remove the “recovery_wyzepan3.bin” folder before reinserting it into the camera.
Wyze Cam Pan v2

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam Pan v2:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “recovery_wcpv2.bin”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by unplugging it from the wall.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam Pan v2, then press and hold the setup button on the camera while plugging the camera back into the wall. Be sure to keep holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds before releasing it.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will appear solid purple as both the red and blue lights will be on at the same time.

Wyze Cam Pan v1

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam Pan v1:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “demo.bin”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by unplugging it from the wall.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam Pan v1, then press and hold the setup button on the camera while plugging the camera back into the wall. Be sure to keep holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds before releasing it.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will have both the yellow and blue lights on at the same time.
  8. Once the flash is complete, the status light will become solid blue and the camera will reboot itself.
    • If the camera was already set up on the Wyze app, it should automatically reconnect.
    • If the camera was no longer set up on the Wyze app, walk through setting it up like new.
  9. Remove the microSD card from the camera before continuing use.
    • If the card remains inserted, the camera will attempt to firmware flash every time it reboots.
  10. To continue using the microSD card, reinsert it into the computer and remove the “demo.bin” folder before reinserting it into the camera.
Wyze Cam Outdoor v1/v2

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam Outdoor v1/v2:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “sd_update”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by flipping the power switch to the off position.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam Outdoor v1/v2, then flip the power switch back to the on position.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will have both the yellow and blue lights on at the same time.
  8. Once the flash is complete, the status light will become solid blue and the camera will reboot itself.
    • If the camera was already set up on the Wyze app, it should automatically reconnect.
    • If the camera was no longer set up on the Wyze app, walk through setting it up like new.
  9. Remove the microSD card from the camera before continuing use.
    • If the card remains inserted, the camera will attempt to firmware flash every time it reboots.
    • You may need to power cycle the camera after removing the microSD card by flipping the power switch to the off position for 5 seconds and then flipping it back to the on position.
  10. To continue using the microSD card, reinsert it into the computer and remove the “sd_update” folder before reinserting it into the camera.
Wyze Base Station

To firmware flash your Wyze Base Station:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page. 
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “sd_update”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the folder to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the base station by unplugging it from the wall.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Base Station, then plug it back into power.
    • The base station will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light may either stay solid yellow or begin blinking blue.
  8. Once the flash is complete, the status light will become solid blue and the base station will reboot itself.
    • If the base station was already set up on the Wyze app, it should automatically reconnect.
    • If the base station was no longer set up on the Wyze app, walk through setting it up like new.
  9. Remove the microSD card from the base station before continuing use.
    • If the card remains inserted, the base station will attempt to firmware flash every time it reboots.
  10. To continue using the microSD card, reinsert it into the computer and remove the “sd_update” folder before reinserting it into the base station.

Additional Notes:

  • For all other Wyze Cam devices not listed here, they are not compatible with firmware flashing.
